Sivasagar flood relief efforts face political disputes and survey extensions
In Sivasagar, political tensions have escalated following devastating floods. Eight First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed against Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi by various wings of the BJP. The complaints allege that Gogoi made provocative speeches and issued threats of physical assault against BJP workers regarding the distribution of flood relief aid.
Concurrently, the Sivasagar district administration has extended its Rapid Damage Assessment Survey for flood-affected families until August 30. The survey, which began on August 9, has identified approximately 42,500 houses that suffered severe or full damage. The assessment includes losses to livestock and other assets.
Regarding financial aid, the administration reported that one-time assistance of Rs 15,000 has been credited to 58,795 beneficiaries. However, over 7,500 transactions were delayed due to incorrect banking details, and the information has been forwarded to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority for processing.
