Massachusetts prosecutors charge six in decade-long marriage fraud ring
Six individuals in Massachusetts have been charged in connection with a marriage fraud ring that allegedly operated for over a decade. Prosecutors claim the ring arranged sham marriages between undocumented immigrants and U.S. citizens to fraudulently secure immigration status.
Jennifer Gonzalez, 43, is alleged to have led the operation from Fall River, charging clients between $38,000 and $40,000 per arrangement. The ring reportedly averaged 18 to 20 fraudulent marriages annually. Prosecutors allege Gonzalez used the proceeds, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars, to purchase real estate and businesses in the Dominican Republic.
Other defendants include Erica Daniels, Chreise Alejandro, Amara Pugh, Jessica Tavares, and Jaylin Hill. Charges include conspiracy to commit marriage fraud and conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens. Federal officials noted that Gonzalez allegedly coached clients on creating a facade of legitimacy through joint bank accounts and staged photographs.
