Massachusetts marriage fraud ring investigation
Overview
Federal prosecutors in Massachusetts have dismantled an alleged marriage fraud ring that operated for over a decade, reportedly generating more than $6 million in profits. The scheme, allegedly led by Jennifer Gonzalez of Fall River, involved arranging sham marriages between U.S. citizens and undocumented immigrants to help the latter fraudulently obtain legal residency or green cards.
To evade detection by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), participants were allegedly coached to create a “veneer of legitimacy” through wedding photos, joint bank accounts, and shared life insurance policies. The ring reportedly charged clients between $38,000 and $40,000 per marriage, arranging approximately 18 to 20 fraudulent unions annually. Prosecutors allege that Gonzalez used the illicit proceeds to invest in businesses and real estate in the Dominican Republic and improperly received approximately $124,500 in SNAP benefits.
Six individuals—Erica Daniels, Chreise Alejandro, Amara Pugh, Jessica Tavares, Jaylin Hill, and Jennifer Gonzalez—have been charged. The defendants face various counts, including conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens and marriage fraud. The investigation was supported by USCIS.
