Six children die in house roof collapse in Shangla, Pakistan

Six children were killed and an 11‑year‑old girl injured when the roof of a house collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday in Rahimabad village, Kooza Alpuri area of Shangla district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The collapse occurred around 2:15 am; rescue teams from Rescue 1122 arrived quickly, retrieved seven children from the rubble, pronouncing six dead. The victims were identified as Nazira Bibi (14), Samira Bibi (13), Rizwan (4), Nayab (8), Haya Noor (4‑5) and Umaira (12‑13); the injured survivor was 11‑year‑old Marwa, who was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police noted the children's father had died earlier, and funeral prayers were held for the deceased children in the local graveyard. Authorities have not determined the cause of the roof collapse, although the region had been warned of rain and thunderstorms. The incident highlights ongoing risks of aging, poorly maintained rural housing in Pakistan’s mountainous northwest.
