Six former Carabineros officers sentenced to preventive detention in Talca, Chile

A Chilean court ordered preventive detention for six former Carabineros officers accused of forming a criminal association within the police force in Talca. The defendants, ranging from a lieutenant to three senior non‑commissioned officers, were dismissed from service after an investigation uncovered their involvement in at least ten offenses, including robbery, intimidation, fraud, and falsification of official documents. The Ministry of Public Prosecution presented evidence of the group’s collusion while on active duty, using their uniforms to commit robberies and then falsifying police reports to conceal the crimes. The judge accepted all arguments from the prosecution and imposed the maximum precautionary measure, keeping the six accused in custody while the case proceeds.

The operation against the network was described as a "surgical" effort coordinated by the Fiscalía and the Internal Affairs Department of Carabineros, highlighting a significant step in internal police purification.
