Storm rescues three Austrians, grounds dozens of vessels on Croatia’s Adriatic coast

A strong summer storm swept the Croatian Adriatic overnight, producing winds up to 111 km/h, heavy rain and high seas that battered Istria and the Kvarner islands. The National Search and Rescue Center (MRCC Rijeka) coordinated emergency actions with the Port Authority of Pula. Early on, a three‑person Austrian crew was rescued from a capsized sailboat about 12 nautical miles south of Rt Kamenjak; all were unharmed.

The same weather system caused dozens of boats and yachts to run aground on the islands of Unija, Susak and Mali Lošinj. Local crews, the coast guard and rescue services assisted the stranded vessels, reported no injuries or marine pollution, and issued navigational warnings for the affected area.
