Messinia, Greece: 6‑year‑old boy dies after drowning in home pool
On 2 July 2026 a six‑year‑old boy died after falling into the pool of a two‑storey house in Gyaloiva, municipality of Pylos‑Nestos, Messinia, Greece. He was with his 32‑year‑old mother, an Albanian domestic worker who was cleaning the upper floor of the residence. The child slipped from his mother’s attention, entered the pool and was found unconscious. Emergency responders from EKAB arrived, performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and transferred the child to the Pylos Health Centre, where he was later pronounced dead.
The mother, described as being in shock, is expected to be charged with exposing a minor to danger. The local police have opened a pre‑investigation and ordered a forensic autopsy to determine the exact circumstances of the drowning.
