Six-year-old girl dies after being left in hot daycare van in Tennessee

A six-year-old girl, Winter Jones, died after being left on a daycare van in Cordova, Tennessee, during extreme summer heat. The child was discovered at Kid University shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Jones's family stated that the child was non-verbally autistic and unable to communicate that she was still on the vehicle or advocate for herself. Following the discovery, she was transported to Baptist Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

With outdoor temperatures reaching 97 degrees Fahrenheit, medical experts noted that vehicle interiors can reach lethal levels of 120 to 140 degrees within minutes. The Memphis Police Department and the Tennessee Department of Children's Services are currently investigating the incident. The Kid University website was suspended on Thursday night following the event.
