Sixteen detainees begin hunger strike at Investigative Prison

Sixteen detainees at the Investigative Prison have begun a hunger strike to protest prison conditions and legal practices. The Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions (UIKS) confirmed the protest and stated that the competent court has been notified in accordance with legal obligations.

The detainees have expressed dissatisfaction regarding healthcare services and the practice of re-arresting individuals for new offenses immediately upon their expected release after long-term detention. Some participants have also stated they will refuse to attend court proceedings, citing a lack of fundamental human rights and the right to a fair trial.

UIKS officials stated they will maintain records of participants, ensure order and security within the facility, and provide medical supervision through regular examinations and medical staff if necessary, while respecting the right to voluntary protest.
