SK Group advances AI infrastructure via data center stake sale and merger

SK Group is advancing its artificial intelligence infrastructure strategy through major financial and structural reorganizations. SK Telecom and SK Broadband have approved plans to spin off the Ulsan AI data center business into a new entity. A consortium consisting of KKR (29%) and IMM Investment/Stonebridge Capital (20%) is set to acquire a 49% stake in this new entity, representing a transaction value of approximately 3 trillion won.

Simultaneously, SK Ecoplant has announced the absorption merger of its subsidiary, SK Ecoengineering. This move aims to integrate plant design and engineering capabilities with SK Ecoplant’s construction and project management functions. The merger is designed to strengthen the group’s ability to handle the entire lifecycle—from planning and design to construction—of semiconductor factories and AI data centers, enhancing competitiveness in the AI infrastructure market.
