SK hynix labor and management hold final talks on wage agreement

Labor management representatives from SK hynix are meeting at the Icheon Campus to attempt a final resolution for this year’s wage and collective bargaining agreement. Following marathon negotiations held during the Liberation Day holiday period, the union reported that they have reached significant consensus on major issues, stating they have “passed the ninth ridge” of the negotiation process.

A primary point of contention has been the method of performance bonus payments. While a previous agreement established a system using 10% of operating profit as a resource, the company reportedly proposed changing the structure to pay a significant portion of bonuses in company stock rather than cash, accompanied by restrictions on selling those shares for a set period. This proposal has faced backlash from employees due to concerns over stock price volatility and the perceived reversal of prior agreements.

Additionally, the emergence of a new integrated labor union, which includes both production and technical office workers, has added complexity to the negotiations. The new union has indicated it may pursue signature campaigns to oppose any agreement that deviates from established compensation standards.
