SK hynix reaches revised labor agreement
Overview
Following the narrow rejection of a tentative wage and collective bargaining agreement, SK hynix management held a communication event at the Bundang campus to address employee concerns. The initial proposal, which was rejected by 50.08% of voting members, featured a 6.3% wage increase and a profit-sharing (PS) structure composed of 40% cash and 60% company stock.
During the event, executives defended the shift toward stock-based compensation, stating it was intended to “ensure the sustainability of the profit-sharing system while aligning the interests of shareholders and employees.” Jin Bo-geon, head of corporate culture, emphasized that the company aims to protect employees and ensure performance is recognized without disadvantage.
Labor and management have since reached a revised tentative agreement that addresses the previous contention regarding compensation ratios. The new terms increase the cash component of profit-sharing payments from 40% to 50%, while reducing the stock component from 60% to 50%. Under this arrangement, 80% of the current year’s PS will be distributed as 50% cash and 30% stock, with the remaining 20% distributed as stock in 10% increments over the following two years. Employees are granted the flexibility to adjust their stock portion from the 50% base up to a maximum of 100% in 10% increments.
Furthermore, the revised agreement includes the accelerated payment of deferred bonuses and an expansion of the company’s housing loan support program to include single-parent households.
