SK Hynix pushes stock bonuses and loss‑linked wage cuts, union rejects

SK Hynix management has offered to increase the proportion of performance bonuses paid in company shares and to restrict the resale of those shares for a set period. The proposal also includes a clause that would allow temporary wage adjustments if the company posts a deficit.

The labor union says the plan breaches the previous agreement that set performance‑bonus funding at 10 % of operating profit, with 80 % paid in cash and the remainder deferred, and argues that exposing workers to stock‑price risk and possible wage cuts is unacceptable. The union issued an ultimatum, warning it will take action before the next bargaining round if the company does not withdraw the proposal.

Negotiations entered a fourth round on Jan. 30, and a fifth round is scheduled for early February. SK Hynix recorded a loss of about 7.7 trillion won in 2023, adding pressure to the talks. The dispute continues as both sides seek a resolution.
