Skiathos airport accident leaves Italian tourist in critical condition
A 52-year-old Italian tourist is in critical condition following an accident at Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport in Skiathos, Greece. The incident occurred on Monday, August 10, near the runway.
While observing a commercial aircraft preparing for takeoff, the woman was struck by an intense gust of air from the plane's engines. The force caused her to lose her balance and fall violently onto the asphalt.
Medical examinations, including a CT scan, revealed a cerebral hemorrhage and severe head trauma. After receiving initial emergency care at a local medical center in Skiathos, she was transferred by helicopter to Volos General Hospital for specialized treatment.
The Skiathos airport is known for its proximity to public roads and the sea, often attracting crowds of spectators who stand behind a low perimeter wall despite warning signs prohibiting the practice.
