Skiathos Airport: Italian tourist seriously injured by jet blast

A 52-year-old Italian tourist was seriously injured at Skiathos Airport on Monday, August 10, after being struck by the powerful jet blast from an aircraft during takeoff. The victim sustained severe cranio-cerebral injuries.

Following the incident, the woman was initially treated at the Skiathos Polyclinic, where she underwent a CT scan. Due to the severity of her condition, she was airlifted to Volos General Hospital for specialized medical care.

Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, specifically how the woman came to be positioned in the path of the aircraft's engine exhaust. The incident has renewed safety concerns regarding the airport's unique layout. Skiathos Airport is a well-known destination for plane spotting, as the runway is located in close proximity to public roads and beaches, such as Xysta, where spectators often gather to photograph aircraft at low altitudes.
