Skoda Elroq leads Danish EV sales and beats 1980s supercars in UK drag race

In Denmark, the Skoda Elroq became the best‑selling electric vehicle in the first half of 2026 with 5,065 registrations, overtaking the Tesla Model Y and Toyota bZ4X. Overall, 80,704 new EVs were licensed, representing 79.9% of all new car registrations and a 41.2% year‑on‑year increase. Total new‑car sales rose 12.9% to 101,032 units. The Elroq’s starting price of 259,995 DKK (about €35,000) gave it a clear cost advantage over the Model Y, which starts at 299,990 DKK. Mobility Denmark warned that upcoming changes to registration taxes could raise EV prices by up to 150,000 DKK if the current incentives are removed.

In the United Kingdom, Skoda UK staged a promotional drag‑race at Dunsfold Aerodrome, pitting the electric Elroq vRS against three iconic 1980s supercars – a Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary, a Ferrari Testarossa and a Porsche 944 Turbo. The Elroq completed the run in 19.19 seconds, beating the Countach (21.22 s), Testarossa (20.08 s) and 944 Turbo (22.10 s). Powered by dual electric motors delivering 335 hp and 545 Nm, the SUV accelerates from 0‑100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and offers an 82 kWh battery with up to 344 miles (≈553 km) of range. The event highlighted the rapid progress of electric‑vehicle technology and Skoda’s market positioning.
