Škoda SUV milestones and market lead
Entities: Škoda Auto · Kvasiny plant · China · Volkswagen AG · Germany
Overview
Škoda unveiled the Peaq, its largest fully electric seven‑seat SUV, measuring 4.87 m in length and offering a 935‑litre boot in the five‑seat configuration. It features a 13.6‑inch vertical Android infotainment screen, ranges of 450–647 km (63 kWh or 91 kWh battery), and 200 kW fast‑charging. Prices start at 1.15 million CZK in the Czech market, €1,095 in Finland (with a €1,000 seven‑seat premium) and around €50,635 in Spain. Production began at Mladá Boleslav and deliveries started in September 2026, following durability testing of over 1.5 million km across Europe, North America and Africa. The Peaq also serves as the official director’s car for the 2026 Tour de France in a four‑seat Sportline version.
Škoda’s SUV range is complemented by the low‑cost Epiq compact EV (≈$30) and the high‑performance Kodiaq RS, which sold out its 50‑unit Indian reservation in six minutes. The company plans to introduce the Peaq and an Epiq‑derived model to India by 2027 and celebrated the production of its one‑millionth Karoq SUV at the Kvasiny plant.
Competitor MG Motor launched the MGS9 plug‑in hybrid seven‑seat SUV, about 5 m long, priced around €38,000 after a weight‑based tax exemption, offering roughly 92 km of electric range and premium features such as heated seats and semi‑autonomous driving aids.
Volkswagen Group, Škoda’s parent, reported a 32.9 % profit decline and announced a restructuring programme that could cut up to 100,000 jobs, affecting roughly 580,000 employees and potentially leading to plant closures despite union resistance. The group is accelerating its EV push, targeting 382,000 VW‑branded electric cars in 2025 and nearly 1 million across the group, launching the sub‑€25,000 ID Polo in early 2026 and planning more than 20 new models for 2026, about half of which will be fully electric.
