Skoda leads Czech car market in H1 2026 as electric sales surge
In the first half of 2026, Czech new passenger‑car registrations rose 5.85% year‑on‑year to 129,810 units. Skoda retained its dominant position with a 36.84% market share, its Octavia model remaining the best‑seller and the Kodiaq posting the strongest relative growth among the top five models. Mercedes‑Benz became the most popular premium brand, while Volkswagen, Hyundai and Toyota completed the top‑ten list.
Electrified powertrains continued to gain traction. Sales of purely electric vehicles in the used‑car market jumped 76% year‑on‑year, and electric cars accounted for 6.65% of new‑car registrations, a 31.18% increase. Overall hybrid models made up 28.95% of new sales, with plug‑in hybrids representing about 5% of the market.
Fuel preferences remained largely conventional, with gasoline powering 65.45% of new cars and 49% of used cars. The market also saw a 10.4% rise in imported used vehicles, with an average age over ten years for nearly half of them.
