MG and Skoda launch new electric vehicle models

The electric vehicle market is seeing increased competition through new model launches and technological advancements. MG, owned by the Chinese SAIC Group, has introduced the MG 4 Urban, priced at €24,990. The vehicle offers significant cargo space, with up to 1,364 liters when rear seats are folded, positioning it as a competitive option in the budget segment.

Skoda is also expanding its electric lineup with the Epiq. While originally marketed as an accessible SUV around €25,000, current availability in France shows higher entry prices. A limited First Edition model is available with 211 PS and a range of up to 430 km, priced at approximately €38,950.

On the technical side, silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors are emerging as a critical component for EV efficiency. These components, used in inverters to convert direct current to alternating current, allow for better heat dissipation and higher voltage resistance compared to standard silicon. This technology is vital for maximizing energy delivery to the wheels in high-performance electric vehicles.
