Skoda reports sales growth and strategic shift to SSP platform
Skoda is experiencing significant growth, reporting sales of over 555,000 vehicles since the start of 2026, a 9.1% increase that makes it the only brand in the Volkswagen Group portfolio to see growth. This success is driven by strong demand for plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, with electric sales rising 48% to over 108,000 units.
The company is undergoing a strategic shift toward the new SSP platform. A new generation of the Octavia, based on the Vision O concept, is expected to bridge the size gap between the current Octavia and the Superb. As the automotive market sees a decline in demand for traditional sedans and station wagons, the Superb may face a gradual phase-out to be replaced by models derived from the Vision O concept by the end of the decade.
Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer noted that while the ultimate goal is electric mobility, the timing of a natural transition by 2035 remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the brand continues to compete in the budget segment with models like the Fabia, positioning itself as a reliable European alternative to expanding Chinese automotive brands.
