Skopelos crowned top Mediterranean travel destination for 2026

The Italian travel portal travel.thewomit.it highlighted Skopelos as one of the most striking Mediterranean islands, noting its cinematic fame from the film Mamma Mia! and its “cinematic radiation”.

Following the World Travel Market exhibition, the island was ranked #1 on a list of the world’s most popular travel spots for 2026, overtaking destinations such as the Seychelles, Bali and Iceland. Local tourism officials attribute the rise to a focused plan promoting themed products, and tourism committee president Eva Karamesini said the island’s “thematic tourism offerings that captivate travellers and international media”. Blogger Marta Ostoja praised Skopelos for its “harmonious natural colour palette” and a variety of activities ranging from hiking and cycling to diving, Mamma Mia tours and traditional cheese‑pie cooking.
