Skopje announces infrastructure upgrades and urban clearing
Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski has announced a series of municipal upgrades aimed at improving city infrastructure and public order. To address aging machinery, the city is renewing the vehicle fleets of the public transport company JSP and the utility company Komunalna Higijena. A tender for new buses has been completed, and the procurement of new trucks is pending government and city council decisions. Additionally, 3,300 new containers have been purchased at significantly lower prices, with installation expected to begin within seven to ten days.
Regarding urban management, Gjorgjievski stated that the city will move to clear illegally placed temporary structures along Skopje's boulevards. He noted that many of these structures have operated for decades without proper permits, often failing to meet sanitary and safety standards, particularly those selling food. The Mayor emphasized that while he understands the economic impact on families, prioritizing public health and legal order is necessary to prevent urban chaos.
