Skopje health centers report surge in respiratory infections

Health centers in Skopje, North Macedonia, have reported a significant increase in patients seeking medical assistance. In a single night, 152 individuals were examined across six emergency duty points at the Skopje Health Center.

Medical professionals noted that while many patients presented with symptoms such as high blood pressure, sore throats, headaches, and stomach issues, there is a visible rise in acute respiratory infections. These symptoms include fever, fatigue, and body aches, which are characteristic of both influenza and COVID-19. Dr. Ankica Stanoevska stated that while some patients have confirmed COVID-19 cases, others are being monitored for influenza, as the clinical presentation closely resembles the flu.

The surge is most notable among school-aged children and the working-age population. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has announced that influenza immunization is set to begin, with 30,000 vaccines secured. Priority for vaccination will be given to individuals with serious health conditions and citizens over the age of 65.
