Skopje implements urban rail and electric buses to reduce pollution

Skopje is implementing new public transportation measures to combat air pollution. Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski stated that the use of the urban rail system and the upcoming introduction of electric ecological buses next year will significantly reduce vehicle density and emissions in the city center.

Currently, the urban rail line between Zelenikovo and Nova is serving between 300 and 500 passengers daily, which Nikoloski notes reduces the number of vehicles and frees up parking spaces in the center. The government's plan involves integrating public transport to manage traffic flowing from directions including Tetovo, Gostivar, Veles, Kumanovo, and Pristina.

Future plans include designing two additional urban rail lines and potentially introducing a rail connection between Pristina and Skopje, provided track reconstruction in Kosovo is completed.
