Skopje launches BRT system tender process
The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Skopje has entered a new phase with the launch of a pre-qualification tender process. Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski announced that the procedure is being conducted in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with interested companies able to apply until November 2.
The project is intended to be one of three pillars for transforming public transport in the capital, alongside the acquisition of 100 new buses and the establishment of urban rail transport. The goal is to provide faster, modern, and ecological transport to reduce traffic congestion.
Construction activities are expected to begin as early as late spring of next year following the selection of a contractor. The city has indicated that the modernization of the transport system will be carried out while preserving existing greenery on major boulevards.
