Skopje public transport modernization project

Overview

The city of Skopje has initiated a multi-phase project to modernize its public transport system through a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) initiative. The process began with a pre-qualification tender conducted in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with applications open until November 2.

Following the initial tender launch, Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski announced a revised functional concept for the BRT. This updated plan allows buses to operate on both sides of central greenery to preserve the existing landscape. The project is structured in phases, starting with infrastructure to connect Gjorce Petrov with Novo Lisice, followed by the procurement of approximately 40 eco-friendly buses.

In addition to the BRT, the city has launched a tender for two large modular parking lots near the Clinical Center, intended to accommodate over 520 vehicles to help alleviate traffic congestion.
