Skopje rescue chief Stojanche Angelov says nature is ultimate regulator after storm damage
Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue Stojanche Angelov said that after the severe weather that hit Skopje, nature acts as “the biggest controller” of everything built by man, noting the storm caused material damage and knocked down trees.
He warned that the event shows whether construction complies with laws, regulations and standards, stating that buildings that do not meet criteria are damaged, uprooted or collapsed by nature. Angelov called on the construction sector to adhere strictly to norms and urged environmental organisations to cooperate when authorities decide to remove old or unstable trees, emphasizing that safety is the top priority. He added that “without double standards, without urgencies, without friendly ties” the natural test is impartial.
