Skopje to receive 100 electric buses following procurement deal

The procurement process for 150 new electric buses and 75 chargers, valued at approximately €59.9 million, has concluded with a signed contract. Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski announced that the capital city will receive priority in the distribution, receiving 100 of the vehicles before buses are allocated to other municipalities.

To prepare for the new fleet, infrastructure work is underway in coordination with EVN and JSP. Efforts are focused on upgrading the electrical grid and installing new transformer stations at three key locations: the new railway station, Autokomanda, and Gjorce Petrov. These upgrades are necessary to ensure the existing network can handle the increased capacity.

The Ministry of Transport stated the investment aims to reduce air pollution and improve public transport. However, the opposition party LSDM has criticized the tender, alleging that capacity requirements were lowered from 76 to 66 passengers and calling for a prosecutorial investigation into the procedure.
