Skopje to Reuse Storm‑Felled Trees for Public Projects and Firewood
Winds exceeding 130 km/h struck Skopje, toppling hundreds of trees and damaging roofs, fences, vehicles and public spaces such as the City Park, Botel cemetery, Karpos and Aerodrom. Initial police reports listed 189 fallen trees, but city officials say the actual number is far higher. Cleanup crews have prioritized removing trunks that block traffic, while the remainder is being collected for further use. The municipality says the larger trunks will be stored by the public enterprise "Parks and Greenery" and later processed into summer‑house components for Vodno, urban equipment, benches, fences and similar items. Smaller branches and cut pieces will be taken to the Drisla landfill, and part of the wood will be turned into firewood destined for socially vulnerable families. No casualties were reported, and work continues several days after the storm.
