SKUAST-K students secure research fellowships in Japan

Four students from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) have secured competitive research fellowships in Japan. These selections occur within a broader framework of expanding educational ties between India and Japan, which aims to host 10,000 Indian students and researchers over the next five years.

The scholars include doctoral student Tabish Jaan, master’s student Misbah Fayaz, and doctoral scholar Sayima Nargis, all of whom were awarded the JST-LOTUS Fellowship for varying durations. Additionally, master’s graduate Nulevino Iralu received a four-year Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship.

During their research tenures, the scholars will focus on molecular biology, biotechnology, and plant pathology. Their work aims to address critical nutritional challenges and mitigate biotic and abiotic stresses in crops through applications in molecular genetics, multi-omics, and plant immunity. Sayima Nargis, for instance, will conduct research at the Institute of Plant Science and Resources at Okayama University.
