Jarosław Benedictine Abbey stabbing leaves one priest dead
A fatal stabbing occurred on Thursday morning at the Benedictine Abbey in Jarosław, southeastern Poland. A 31-year-old Ukrainian national was detained at the scene after allegedly attacking five people with a large knife.
The attack took place around 9:30 am on the abbey grounds, specifically near the Center for Christian Culture and Formation, shortly before a scheduled Mass. One victim, an elderly priest, died from his injuries in the hospital. Four other individuals, including three priests, were wounded; several are reported to be in critical condition.
Sister Barbara Dendor, the superior of the Benedictine community, described the event as a sudden and violent assault. The abbey, which has long provided aid to refugees from Ukraine, expressed shock over the incident. Local authorities and the Prosecutor's Office in Przemyśl are investigating the motive behind the attack.
