Skyros: Suspect detained in connection with island wildfires

Authorities on the island of Skyros have detained a man as a suspect in connection with a fire that broke out in the Hartsa area on August 29. The blaze burned approximately 4 stremmata of land.

Investigators from the Fire Service's Arson Crime Investigation Units are currently examining whether the suspect is also linked to a much larger wildfire that occurred on August 15 in the Klouthro area, which destroyed approximately 4,090 stremmata.

Reports indicate the suspect may face mental health issues and alcohol abuse, and relatives have reportedly identified him as being involved, though he has not confessed. He is expected to appear before a prosecutor to determine if a psychiatric evaluation is necessary.
