Skyscanner identifies ‘Grand Odysseys’ as major 2027 travel trend
Skyscanner has identified a rising travel trend for 2027 dubbed ‘Grand Odysseys,’ characterized by an increasing interest in historical routes, ancient ruins, and locations tied to legendary narratives. Based on research involving over 28,000 travelers, the report suggests that people are seeking deeper connections to the past to find meaning in a fast-paced modern world.
This trend is heavily influenced by cinematic releases, such as Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s ‘The Odyssey.’ Data indicates that 43% of Millennials have been inspired by films or series set in antiquity, with 24% traveling to follow these historical narratives. This engagement is even higher among Gen Z, reaching 30%. Digital platforms reflect this surge; TikTok has seen a 346% year-on-year increase in views for cinematic travel videos, while the #HeroJourney hashtag has grown by approximately 452%.
Recommended destinations for this trend include Cape Drastis on the Greek island of Corfu, the historical walls of Xi’an in China, and Monte Santa Caterina on the Italian island of Favignana. The phenomenon has also extended to literature, with record demand reported for classical works and epic poems.
