Romanian Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu Announces Stricter Beach Controls and Salina Praid Repairs

Interim Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu said that inspections on Romania’s seaside will be intensified. Operators who place illegal sun‑beds or unauthorised constructions will be fined and the illegal items removed. The minister stressed that at least 30 % of each beach must remain free for towel space, and that from autumn a programme to plant forest belts along the coast will begin.

Buzoianu also announced that work on the Salina Praid salt mine is expected to start this year. Funding has been allocated for the project, which includes water‑diversion works to protect the mine from future flood damage. The European Union has approved €14.3 million to help Romania recover from the severe floods of 2025 that damaged the mine’s infrastructure.
