Croatia marks 35th anniversary of several military brigades

Various regions in Croatia are holding ceremonies to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the formation of several Croatian Army (HV) brigades during the Homeland War in 1991.

In Požega, the 123rd Brigade was honored with wreath-laying ceremonies, a memorial mass at the Cathedral of Saint Teresa of Avila, and a formal academy. The event, attended by Minister of Croatian Veterans Tomo Medved, celebrated the unit's role in defending Western Slavonia and its liberation efforts during operations such as Orkan 91 and Papuk 91.

In Slatina, commemorations for the 136th Slatina Brigade included military parades, a memorial mass, and the opening of a chronological outdoor exhibition titled ‘From Occupation to Victory’. The exhibition, organized by the Slatina Heritage Museum and the Croatian Officers' Corps, uses historical documents and photographs to trace the region's journey from the first signs of resistance in 1990 to final victory.

Additionally, ceremonies in Osijek marked the 35th anniversary of the Osijek reserve brigades, highlighting their strategic role in preventing enemy advances toward eastern Croatia. Other local commemorations included honoring fallen soldiers in Karlovac and maintaining the memory of those who defended the country's sovereignty.
