University of Zagreb bans communist-themed event
The administration of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb has banned an event titled ‘Meet the Communist’. The gathering, organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Students' Club and the Revolutionary Communist League, was scheduled for October 21.
The faculty administration cited concerns following numerous reactions from the academic community and the public, including requests for police and security agency involvement. The administration stated that while the faculty remains a space for free thought and radical political ideas, it must not serve as a platform for political recruitment or the organization of revolutionary movements.
Organizers had planned the event to discuss Marxism, capitalism, and revolution. However, the faculty noted that the Revolutionary Communist League openly advocates for the revolutionary change of the political system, including the abolition of state institutions, the government, and the presidency.
