University of Zagreb event ban controversy

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FFZG) at the University of Zagreb banned an event titled ‘Meet the Communist’, organized by the Faculty Students' Club (KSFF) and the Revolutionary Communist League (RKS).

Dean Domagoj Tončinić stated that while the faculty remains a space for freedom of thought and radical political ideas, it should not serve as a platform for “political recruitment or the organization of revolutionary movements.” The administration cited concerns regarding political neutrality, the legality of the event, and security risks, noting that students could face physical attacks. The administration also reported a lack of requested information from the organizers.

The KSFF has criticized the cancellation, questioning whether the administration is yielding to external political pressure rather than protecting academic discussion and student safety. The students also requested that the administration condemn previous interventions by members of the Homeland Movement Youth and Josip Dabra, but this request was denied.
