Sleep deprivation affects one in three adults
A report from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) indicates that 30.5% of adults sleep less than the recommended seven hours per night. Additionally, nearly one in five people experience difficulty staying asleep, while 15.4% struggle to fall asleep.
Chronic sleep deficiency is linked to significant health risks, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and cognitive decline. It also affects mental health by increasing the risk of anxiety and depression, while disrupting hormonal balance and the immune system.
In professional environments, a culture of sleep deprivation often persists, where leaders may view limited sleep as a sign of commitment or high responsibility. However, experts note that inadequate rest can negatively impact leadership capabilities, affecting communication, listening skills, and decision-making within teams.
