Sleep deprivation costs Polish employers 8.73 billion PLN annually
A report by the platform ePsycholodzy.pl indicates that sleep deprivation among young workers aged 18-35 in Poland could cost employers approximately 8.73 billion PLN annually. This figure is based on an estimated 17.5 million lost working days, calculated at a rate of 500 PLN per day.
The study found that 29.9% of young men and 35.6% of young women sleep less than six hours per night. Additionally, 32.3% of men and 27.5% of women sleep between six and seven hours. The economic impact is split between men, accounting for roughly 4.71 billion PLN, and women, accounting for approximately 4.02 billion PLN.
Experts note that insufficient sleep reduces concentration and reaction times, increasing the risk of errors and accidents. The report emphasizes that these calculations only account for sick leave and do not include broader economic consequences such as presenteeism, decreased productivity, higher turnover, or long-term impacts on human capital.
