Sleep emerges as a primary metric in global wellness trends
Sleep has increasingly become a central metric in global wellness, often prioritized by individuals over diet and exercise. A 2026 global survey of 30,000 people indicated that 53% of respondents ranked sleep as the most important habit for a long and healthy life.
The rise of wearable technology, such as smartwatches and rings, has allowed consumers to monitor sleep patterns with the same scrutiny previously applied to calories and physical activity. An American Academy of Sleep Medicine survey found that 48% of 2,007 adults had used a sleep tracker, with 55% reporting changes in behavior based on that data.
While technology provides data on movement and heart rate, experts note that these devices estimate sleep rather than providing medical confirmation. However, they can serve as early warning signs for issues like sleep apnea, a condition that CPAP reports suggest 80% of sufferers are unaware they have.
