Sleep quality factors: light exposure and mattress selection

Sleep quality is influenced by various environmental and physical factors, including light exposure and mattress selection. Light plays a critical role in regulating the circadian rhythm; while darkness facilitates melatonin production and easier sleep onset, natural morning light can assist in a gradual awakening and improve daytime alertness.

Regarding sleep equipment, experts warn against common mistakes when purchasing mattresses. According to the Global Sleep Survey 2025 by Ipsos for ResMed, 73% of Brazilians report sleep loss due to stress at least once a week. To avoid inadequate purchases, specialists suggest avoiding quick decisions in stores, distinguishing between foam density and firmness, and understanding that a mattress does not need to be extremely hard to support the spine; rather, proper body alignment is the priority.
