A massive wildfire near Omiš, Croatia, which began on August 13, has caused significant destruction and loss of life. The fire burned approximately 1,000 hectares of land, destroying homes, vehicles, and tourist infrastructure. One person, a 34-year-old citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was confirmed dead.

Approximately 1,000 people were evacuated from the area. Among the injured, three patients transferred to Zagreb are reported to be slightly more stable but remain intubated and in life-threatening condition. Seven other patients with minor injuries are recovering in various hospital wards.

Local residents have expressed concerns regarding the environmental impact and the risk of flash floods due to the loss of vegetation on steep slopes. Despite the devastation, tourism in the coastal areas remains active, creating a stark contrast between the charred hillsides and the busy beaches.
