Slovak Football Federation Funding Suspended Over Contract Concerns

The Slovak Ministry of Tourism and Sport has temporarily halted the disbursement of the third tranche of a state subsidy to the Slovak Football Federation (SFZ), amounting to more than €4 million for the 2026 season. The ministry said the suspension follows serious uncertainties surrounding guarantee contracts signed by SFZ President Jan Kováčik, which lack disclosed sums and may breach the federation's statutes.

Investigations by the Main Sports Inspector uncovered discrepancies in contracts with companies such as Best Press, SWAN, ASBIS SK and APEX Services. The ministry also noted that the federation failed to pay youth coaches despite having received the subsidy. Under the sport law, the ministry can suspend eligibility for public funds when compliance issues are identified.

The halted funds were intended for youth football development, regional federations and clubs across Slovakia, raising concerns about the impact on the sport’s grassroots programmes.
