At the end of June 2026 the Slovak Ministry of Tourism and Sport signalled a possible suspension of the third €4 million tranche of state support to the Slovak Football Federation (SFZ), warning that a delay would jeopardise clubs, youth programmes and national squads. The SFZ announced it would defend the funds in court and noted creditor claims exceeding €24 million.

In early August the ministry announced a rise in the overall sports budget to €76.6 million, with €10.8 million earmarked for the SFZ. The ministry reiterated that the April‑2026 suspension remained in force due to alleged misuse of funds, including purchases of mobile phones. The SFZ responded by filing a criminal complaint and a legal statement demanding the suspension be lifted, arguing the action is unlawful and threatens the operation of Slovak football at all levels.
