Slovak health experts warn of hidden heart fatigue signs and dementia risk factors

Sleep specialist Tomáš Eichler explains that persistent fatigue despite sufficient sleep can be a silent indicator of heart problems. He advises keeping a regular wake‑up time, as the brain relies on consistent rhythms. Subtle symptoms such as unexplained tiredness, breathlessness or reduced exercise capacity may signal gradual cardiovascular issues that develop without acute chest pain.

A long‑term U.S. study of 12,409 adults (the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities cohort) found that maintaining normal blood pressure, avoiding diabetes and not smoking between ages 45 and 65 can add up to 13 years of life free of dementia. Participants without these three risk factors lived on average 30.1 years without dementia, compared with 17.5 years for those with all three. The results highlight the importance of vascular health for preventing cognitive decline later in life.
