Slovak municipalities advance new rental housing construction projects

Municipalities in Slovakia are advancing projects to increase the supply of rental housing. In Levoča, construction is progressing on schedule for five new apartment buildings on Viktor Greschika Street. The project will provide 30 modern units, consisting of 15 two-room and 15 three-room apartments, each featuring a loggia. The development includes sidewalks, parking spaces, utility networks, and landscaping. The total cost exceeds 3.5 million EUR, funded through a subsidy from the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic, a loan from the State Housing Development Fund, and the city's own resources. Completion is expected by August 2027.

In Banská Bystrica, the city is preparing to begin construction on 23 new rental apartments on Ďumbierska Street. The project follows several years of delays and unsuccessful public tenders caused by rising construction costs and legislative constraints. The city currently faces a shortage, with over 350 applicants waiting for approximately 314 available municipal rental units, some of whom have been on waiting lists since 2012. The municipality has adjusted the project design and materials to align with current market prices and subsidy requirements to ensure successful implementation.
