Slovak Ombudsman intervenes in disability pension delay

The Slovak Public Defender of Rights, Róbert Dobrovodský, has confirmed a violation of the fundamental right to legal protection regarding a disability pension application. A claimant, who submitted her request in November 2025, faced a six-month delay before the Social Insurance Agency officially recorded the application.

Although the applicant provided all requested medical documentation by early December 2025, no procedural actions were taken by the agency until May 2026, following the intervention of the Ombudsman’s office. The Ombudsman emphasized that the recording of an application is a purely administrative task independent of the medical assessment process and should be completed without unnecessary delay.

Dobrovodský noted that the right to legal protection requires public authorities to act efficiently and not subject citizens to excessive waiting periods for basic administrative procedures.
