The Slovak Public Defender of Rights, Róbert Dobrovodský, intervened in a case involving a six-month delay by the Social Insurance Agency in recording a disability pension application. The Ombudsman ruled that the delay violated the fundamental right to legal protection, noting that recording an application is a “purely administrative task” that should not be delayed.
Separately, legal guidance has been issued regarding financial support for individuals denied orphan pensions following a parent's death. Experts state that if a child does not qualify for an orphan pension, a surviving parent or authorized person may apply for substitute maintenance through the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family. This maintenance is calculated as 0.7 times the living minimum for an unsupported child, with adjustments made if a pension is eventually granted.
