Slovak opposition alleges corruption in Prešov hospital project and Skyeton sabotage

Opposition parties in Slovakia are raising serious allegations regarding the construction of the Prešov hospital and a recent security incident. The Demokrati party has criticized the lack of transparency surrounding the project, citing a 2025 incident where a ceiling slab collapsed in a basement area. They allege that the basement was classified as a “classified space” to bypass standard public tenders, potentially favoring the contractor Váhostav.

Demokrati further reported that the European Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated proceedings following their submission. They also raised concerns regarding unpaid invoices to subcontractors and reported issues involving foreign workers and alcohol on the construction site.

Simultaneously, the Progresívne Slovensko party has condemned the government's silence following a suspected sabotage attempt against Skyeton, a drone manufacturer located in Prešov. Party leader Michal Šimečka criticized Prime Minister Robert Fico for failing to convene a security council to address the threat, which opposition members suggest may have Russian links. Additionally, opposition figures have filed criminal complaints regarding alleged corruption and questioned government spending on administrative centers amidst fiscal consolidation.
