Sabotage attempt against Skyeton drone factory in Slovakia

Overview

Slovak authorities thwarted a planned arson attack against a Skyeton drone manufacturing facility near Prešov. Following intelligence from the Slovak Information Service and Military Intelligence, police detained two suspects in Slovakia and arrested a third, a 26-year-old Latvian national, in Hamburg, Germany, via a European arrest warrant. The suspects allegedly prepared an incendiary mixture of gasoline and polystyrene, described by experts as “napalm”, to target the facility.

Investigators seized tools, mobile phones, and a handwritten plan of the facility. The production hall, valued at tens of millions of euros, houses approximately 70 employees who could have been inside at the time of the planned attack. Skyeton stated that the attempt is part of a pattern of regular attacks by Russian interests against their production facilities and reputation.

Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák clarified that the plant produces reconnaissance drones and holds export licenses for the US and UK, but not for eastern regions. In the aftermath of the incident, Slovak opposition parties criticized the government for its response. Progresívne Slovensko leader Michal Šimečka condemned the lack of a security council meeting to address the threat, which some members suggest may have Russian links.
